Allow me to share a thing...

Tanya is always concerned that I don’t have a set interest. It’s not idyllic when purchasing gifts for me I suppose, but I mean… I just love so much. I love everything I’ve ever gotten, regardless if I’m super into a fandom or not.** But I get on to secret kicks where I just sit and absorb. I am sponge… I am Spongebob Squarepants. I sit and I laugh uproariously to myself and just scroll through the internet.

tough spongebob meme computer time only ten hours today lol

Let me tell you what happens when I get deliriously excited about something: I research. Consistent and thorough research is how I deal with the tightness in my chest from anticipation. Is there a new show that someone recommended? Perfect. I will watch every episode, read director/producer/cast interviews and text people hilarious quotes. Is there a possibility I’ll have the funds to decorate a room in my house, or get staple furniture that I’ve been waiting years to buy? Break out the big girl pants, because this lady is about to do some major price comparison shopping with her good friend, Google. Paint colours, how to hang an asymmetrical grouping of art, the difference between hardware finishes, various historical themes (my bathroom is going to be Art Nouveau themed), common design patterns for that era, etc. These are all things I have seriously looked into. I could go on. Literally, I could. I would continue until your eyes bled from reading.

Fun fact : When the bombs went off last year at the Boston Marathon, I pretty much didn’t sleep for three days. I was partially terrified, but also very into learning everything I possibly could about the situation. I stayed up to 4am listening to police scanners with Redditors. I mentioned something that I had gleamed from a late night feed in comments and it was subsequently posted to some news sites that week. This made me supremely proud, if not a little worried for where the news gets its sources. My username is an Adam West Batman reference; not thinking they should take me at my word…

To put it bluntly: I get scary obsessed with something for a few weeks, put everyone off with my fascination and then realize that there are other things in life to be interested in. I still have a clandestine love affair with my old interests, but they are not as intense as before. It’s a good way to live.

What I am concerned about is the upcoming HPcation. I’ve been very bored lately. So bored, in fact, that I am trying to memorize the geographic location of all 196 recognized countries in the world (and some non recognized countries). That's not really the point of this story, but I feel like you will take pity on me and my crazies now.

If you are unaware, Tanya and I have kind of talked about going down to Florida for years, especially when Harry Potter World opened at Universal Studios. Each time it was mentioned, we discussed the best time to go, set a due date to save up our money and then promptly put thoughts of savings out of our mind; something always came up. We’re still both fairly young and at this stage of my life I have learned that there are a lot of things you want and a lot of things you need. Prioritizing is not always easy. Anyways, I had a crazed moment where I realized I haven’t left the country in nine years. I have gone down to Ogdensburg, which is extremely close to our border. It was only for an afternoon or so – just enough time to go to Walmart and stock up on US-only food– and then we’d head back to Canada. I wouldn’t call it a vacation.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="380"] For Reference[/caption]

I panicked and immediately started looking up train ticket costs, the average rent in Berlin, best backpacks to use for long term trips and the easiest ways to live in Europe for three months, as per my aforementioned panic-induced obsessions dictate I should. I then received a Universal Studios email to my personal email and had an epiphany of sorts. It was a manic sort of happiness. With three hours of extra exploring the web (along with the compiled research I had stored from three other planned Florida trips in my head) I booked a hotel in August for Tanya’s champagne birthday. I had very little patience for Tanya to actually tell me whether or not she would come with me. She would come, even if I had to pay for her.

That’s not even the scary part, my friends. I have spent the past four days compiling the following:

  • A list of necessary rides to go on, including those for a part of the park THAT IS NOT EVEN REMOTELY FINISHED YET (see: Diagon Alley expansion)

  • Menus for restaurants in our immediate vicinity, along with the best times to go to miss the lines

  • Directions, walking times and water-taxi schedules for the best way around the park

  • Ride times, average line times and best way to go around the parks without needing to take a 30 minute nausea break

  • The best pools around our resort, cost of spa stuff, where all the Elvis memorabilia was in the Hard Rock (they have a jumpsuit!)

  • What is necessary to go into 313 bags for air travel, what to pack in carryon bags, best dresses to pack on vacation, insoles for sandals so I don’t have to wear runners around

  • The importance of Birthday buttons at Universal; what rides you can jump lines in; birthday related resort/park things that you could get

  • Mystic fountain questions, hidden props around the park and fun things to say to cast members

  • Around which area and what times Beetlejuice is around, because I'm ridiculous.

  • Merchandise in the parks that I can accrue as gifts/souvenirs

This is just the beginning. Keep in mind that my mind hasn't actually accepted that this is going to happen and also that it is still seven months away. If I spent this much time on learning French for my job, I would be fluent. I’m convinced that I’ll pretty much have the entire park, resort and surrounding area memorized before we get to YOW on the 25th. I’m just so excited this is happening and that I get to share it with my very best of friends. I hope you guys don’t think I’m delusional. I’m fairly normal, if not a smidge weird. If you can think of anything we should consider before we leave in August, please let me know so that I can research as soon as possible. Many thanks.

** Best gift ever still goes to this year’s Crystalopoly. Half because I’ve always wanted my own Monopoly game and half because I never think that people pay attention to me enough to know what I really like. Boy, was I proven wrong. Best. Gift. Ever. Ya’ll lose. Sorry, not sorry.

She's Back!

Hello everyone!

As you can see I am back. Luis the squirrel informs me that no one tried to break into my house or car, mostly because there is nothing of interest in either. He is rude like that. I am glad my house is in good shape, minus one dead fish, but whatever he isn’t all that fancy.

So, in a clever plan to not forget any of my trip and also so I can relay it all to you lovely readers I brought a big notebook to write in every night. Want to know what I did instead? Fell asleep. The latest I ever stayed up was about 11:40 on the very last night because I was excited to go home. Also because the bed was not very comfortable and it was near impossible to fall asleep despite being exhausted.

But really out of the whole trip, the only complaint was the beds. Everything else was super awesome. I will give you the highlights because I don’t think anyone wants to hear a play by play.

Catamaran Tour: Get on a neat boat with a cool net thing at the front so you are suspended over the ocean in places. Boated over to the Dolphararium, apparently this is a word, and go into a dolphin tank and hug, kiss, hold and pet a dolphin. Dave and I dawdled after our turn in the dolphin tank and got to go get a really cool picture in another dolphin tank of them jumping from the water to kiss me.  After dolphins we went snorkeling in the ocean. Then we boated to an island for lunch which was very tasty and then played on the beach for a couple hours and then boated home. It was a very nice day.

Jeep Tour: Drove around in a big convoy of jeeps with a couple from BC who were really nice and adventured around. Went to a cave and Dave went swimming. Then drove to a place to snorkel along a coral reef which was much harder than I anticipated. Then drove to a farm thing for a lunch which was iffy but the place was kind of fun. I held a couple baby goats which was amazing. They were so light and soft and cute and I want to get a goat when I get a farm one day. Then we went to another farm that grew various fruits and ate sugar cane and then listened as the lady was saying how the chemicals cause cancer and how cancer is the biggest cause of death in Cuba. Then Dave turned to me and said “Yes, it’s the chemicals not the constant chain smoking cigars and gallons of rum consumed.” And we laughed and then were glared at a bit. Then we drove back and went to the hotel.

So those were the two big things that we did. Otherwise we were wandering the resort which was nice and pretty big. Played in the ocean a lot and did a lot of walking. I think I may be in slightly better shape than when I left which is weird.

This is super awkward writing… Mostly because I don’t think anyone really wants to hear about my trip because I live in Canada and everyone else was in the cold while I hugged a dolphin, and also because I am sitting in the tunnels under my work on my tiny laptop and strangers sat down next to me. These ones don’t ever ask if its okay, they just glare at me until I move my bag and sit down.

Oh well, not my table I suppose.

I should have gone to the Tim’s but it’s too cold to go outside. Although then I would have had internet… I am actually typing this in Word and I will copy paste it later. My plan today was actually to start writing but I haven’t written in here for a long time and I missed it.

So what did I miss? I know I missed a lot probably… something cool had to have happened. I did miss the announcement of ADAM FREAKING WEST coming to Comicon. So now I hope I can go. I kind of NEED to go. But I really don’t know how it works, I know there are big lines and stuff unless you buy this 200$ pass and I don’t think I can afford that. I have never been to Comicon but I feel as though it might just be where I belong. I need to go on EBay and get my comic book collection caught up. Since I changed jobs I am now too far to walk to the comic book shop at lunch time so I am like… 6 months behind. It’s upsetting.

Tonight I go visit my petite poochy! I hope he is still adorable and that his head is growing nice and round. It was so hard to pick one when they all kind of look like sausages… but I think he will be awesome no matter what. I also don’t quite understand how the lady who has them can tell them apart… they all looked mostly alike.

Ugh, I so don’t want to go back to work. My job has succeeded in sucking all the relaxed and rejuvenated feelings that I had gained in the last week in the first two minutes of arriving. Today I had this horrible feeling that I had been fired and someone forgot to tell me. I got to work, my office had a stack of boxes in it full of stuff, my chair was gone, and when I checked my email there was one saying the pay department cancelled my pay until my boss confirms that I was coming back. It was weird and stupid and my boss agreed that it was dumb. Really just wanted to run away as soon as all of this happened.

I need to escape again… I just need to go hide in a cavern built of mattresses and duvets. Otherwise known as my bed.

Anyway, I guess I should go back to work…. Well, spell check, save and then go back to work. Then I need to remember to put this online when I get home, but if you’re reading this then obviously I am more clever than we thought.

Okay so I opened this to post this post and apparently I dropped my laptop again like last time and now its techno coloured and hurts my eyes. i don't know how to fix it, last time I just left the computer alone for two months and it was fixed. Let's hope this happens again because I don't want to have to buy a new netbook.

French Fries and Gazoo

Today kind of started in a really awkward way. I woke up and couldn't really open my left eye. It was all swollen and gross and uncomfortable. Because I am about as mature as a six year old my mother stopped by on her way to work to confirm my suspicions that it wasn't really good.

I then slept for another few hours and then tried to wake up the boy who had been snoring all night. He did not seem impressed. Seems as though he was sick too. When he finally got up and out of bed we ventured to the walk in clinic and turns out we both have some creepy bug from swimming in creepy water.

The best part about waking up with a gross and swollen eye is that I have a job interview tomorrow that I was already nervous for. I just have the best luck sometimes... Sometimes I think my dad might be right about the world. He thinks (I think its mostly a joke but with him you cannot be too sure) that we are all aliens that have misbehaved and so earth is basically our prison. He says that we all have an alien leader that is like Gazoo from the Flinstones who watches over us so that if anything starts to go too good, they send down some bad luck. It sounds entirely crazy at first, but look at your life and think about it: How often does every thing seem to be going so well until it just all the sudden isn't. Nothing has changed, you haven't changed, but all the sudden nothing goes right. Damn Gazoos.

So I haven't told you about my trip yet. Mostly because I have been lazy and partially because I am already starting to forget what we did. There was a lot of driving, a lack of sleeping, and a lot of chips and french fries.

French fries in Nova Scotia are pretty excellent I must say.

Here is the basic run down of my trip:

Day 1: Drive to Edmunston, NB. Dave got cranky in Montreal because Montreal is stupid. We got there and ordered excessive quantities of food that was half decent.

Oh and on the way, we stopped in the crazy Quebec at this dinosaur themed rest stop and found cheap beer and a st huberts express. But the picture is on my phone and I cannot be bothered to email it to myself and put it up.

Day 2: Drive to Halifax, NS. Stopped for lunch at a place that the waitresses had those little change holders on their belts and they were neat. We ate yummy food in which Dave had bacon and cheese on his french fries.

on the left is my chicken finger platter and on the right Dave's fish and chips with bacon/cheese smothered french fries.

We arrived to our Westin Hotel in Halifax and it was very nice. However the masseuse at the spa was on vacation so that plan failed a bit. But we did get fancy robes worth 100$ to lounge in and I took full advantage of that. That evening we wandered the Harbour and bought a silly painting of a cow tied to a balloon.

Day 3: Still in Halifax. It was Alexander Keith's Day so there was stuff set up all along the boardwalk. However first Dave insisted we walk a million years up hill to go to an army surplus store and look at their crap. It wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't pouring rain the entire time. On our way back we got sick of being wet and cold and called a cab, getting the angriest cab driver in all of Nova Scotia. We dried off and then headed back out to the harbour walk thing. A strange child gave us free promotional ponchos and we wore them proudly. I ate a beavertail because you can never pass up a chance to eat a beavertail and still call yourself Canadian. We ate food a lot, and then ate more food, and ate more food. Then later got ice cream. Dave got an airbrush tattoo for free but then went in the hot tub and it washed off. Clever.

Day 4: We left for Cape Breton and drove the long way up the trail and eventually made it to the camp site. We went on a million hour walk (Probably only three) and found this neat rapid section and crossed it into these little pools. Crossing this is where I got my eye infection. Thanks the river. We then played cards in which I realized I can't remember the rules to go-fish but luckily Dave didn't know how to play (wtf?) so it didn't matter.

Day 5: We left camping after making grilled cheese, and my making grill cheese I mean burning one and dropping one in the dirt. I also spilled half the loaf of bread because I didn't realize it was open. on the plus side, we didn't have a whole bunch of left over bread? The we drove around the island because it sounded like a good idea at the time. We went whale watching (where I got badly sunburnt) but I saw Whales as previously discussed and some dolphins.

Then after that we continued to drive around. We eventually ate at the chowder house and it was super good. Then the GPS broke and that was crappy. Luckily being a crazy pants I had mapquest directions home. We then drove all the way to Fredricton and didn't get in until 10, which after driving since like 9 am around Cape Breton was a long day. We stayed in a dingy motel that I didn't dare go under the covers.

Day 6: We left and drove home. Dave had a coughing fit right before Montreal which was fine because I was driving anyways. Again, Montreal is stupid but we got through just fine. When we made it back to the blessed Ontario we celebrated a bit and immediately found an English radio station.

After getting home: The house seemed empty without the dogs, but Noodle was with Dave's parents at the lake and Sable was at my sisters 40 minutes away. So we had the night to ourselves in which I made Dave watch one of the best movies Steven Spielberg ever made:

It freaks me out knowing that the little girl has Lisa Simpsons voice. Its strange seeing her as a human. Also, the morals are terrible Steven... Plot: Dinosaurs come to future after being given smart-making cereal. Instantly makes friends with runaway kid and then flies him into a strangers home. Kid then convinces rich girl to run away with him and join the creepy circus. She gives him sexy face and goes with him. They join the circus with blood - good sign and then get upset when it turns out the creepy circus man with a screw for an eye is bad news. screweye then turns them into monkeys and traps kids dinosaur friends. Clown helps save the day and the dinosaurs go to live in the museum and the rich girl convinces the kid to kiss her. So moral of the story: Always go with strangers who promise you dinosaurs. OH! And you know how movies have their stereotypical fat guy in the movie? Or a sterotypical black guy throwing out clever one liners? They still have that but hes a triceratops named Woog. He is my favourite.

Anyways, This is really long and not very entertaining but it does include a lot of non-connected items so its perfect for the internet!

P.P.S. I see I made more typos in my Paint drawing. When will microsoft give that shit spell check!

Burnt by the Ocean

I am back the Internet. Clearly you missed me... OR at least I will pretend like you did. Not that you had a chance because I kept this thing filled with useless jabber even though I was gone. Sorry about that.

Anyways, so I suppose I will tell you a bit about my trip to get back into this!

I am going to start with something that happened at the end because I am so sad. I got a sunburn. And not just like, oh-she-looks-a-little-pink sunburn, I got crazy-so-burnt-her-whole-forehead-is-swollen-like-she-got-bad-botox sunburn. I can no longer move my eyebrows which if you know me, or even if you don't I will just tell you that basically the worst thing that you can take away from me is my capacity for making facial expressions. So my face hurts to say the least.

SO! Anyways, to the more fun stuff. Want to know how I got that sun burn? I was on a Zodiac boat tour of the ocean searching for whales! This boat tour was supposed to last for an hour and a half to two hours max but we couldn't find whales and this place had a money back guarantee so I think they didn't want to refund the money because we stayed out for a little over three hours. We did find whales at the end though! One of the coolest things I have ever seen.

Yes, that is a baby whale that I have a picture of and was about five feet away from. Totally worth the excruciating face pain I think.

On this trip I saw something that made me really sad for the future. This one family on out boat didn't have a camera. They had an IPad and a Playbook. Now, I am sure the camera's on those are just lovely blahblahblah. But seriously? You are about to go out into the ocean and you are bringing your Ipad? Now, should they have been good about it maybe it wouldn't have been so annoying but they had one of those flip up cases on it and held it open directly in front of my view half the time. I just pity future children who won't know how to use a camera that isn't also a cellphone/computer.

Get out of my pictures stupid machines. (I know this doesn't look too bad but that is because I obviously didn't take pictures when she was all up in my way.)

I will have to give you a more intense day-by-day trip log and I totally promise I will, perhaps even tonight. But now, I need to go wash all my clothes because half are soaking wet and the other half I am terrified of being infested with bed bugs from the dingy motel we stayed in the last night.

So if anyone has any foolproof cures to sun burns I would love to hear them!

It is almost as though I have a superhero mask of burnt flesh.. however there is not a cool name I can come up with and I would still rather be Batgirl...

The Unicorn and the Couch Monkey

I tried to find a fun Mad Libs website to give you a fun post but they all kind of suck.
Here is a heart wrenching tale of the lengths one must go to to discover their true unicorn.

the unicorn and the couch monkey

ONCE upon a time there was a prince who wanted to marry a unicorn; but she would have to be a real unicorn. He ate all over the world to find one, but nowhere could he get what he wanted. There were unicornes enough, but it was difficult to find out whether they were real ones. There was always something about them that was not as it should be. So he came home again and was sad, for he would have liked very much to have a real unicorn.
One evening a terrible storm came on; there was thunder and lightning, and the rain poured down in torrents. Suddenly a knocking was heard at the city gate, and the old king went to open it.
It was a unicorn standing out there in front of the gate. But, good gracious! what a sight the rain and the wind had made his look. The water ran down from his hair and clothes; it ran down into the toes of his shoes and out again at the heels. And yet she said that she was a real unicorn.
"Well, we'll soon find that out," thought the old queen. But she said nothing, went into the bed-room, took all the bedding off the bedstead, and laid a couch monkey on the bottom; then she took twenty mattresses and laid them on the couch monkey, and then twenty eider-down beds on top of the mattresses.
On this the unicorn had to lie all night. In the morning she was asked how she had slept.
"Oh, very badly!" said she. "I have scarcely closed my eyes all night. Heaven only knows what was in the bed, but I was lying on something hard, so that I am black and blue all over my body. It's horrible!"
Now they knew that she was a real unicorn because she had felt the couch monkey right through the twenty mattresses and the twenty eider-down beds.
Nobody but a real unicorn could be as sensitive as that.
So the prince took his for his Sorcerer, for now he knew that he had a real unicorn; and the couch monkey was put in the museum, where it may still be seen, if no one has stolen it.
There, that is a true story.

Slow Motion Reunion

This evening (Well I guess its now yesterday but I am not here so sh) I am bringing Sable (my lovely dog) to my lovely sisters house for a sleepover. Because I am going away my hairy monster of a dog needs somewhere to stay with someone who can tolerate her immense shedding regime.

Lucky for me, Sandy bought a farm and said Sable could have a few days of a play date with Ajax, her super adorable son (granted hes now 12) whom she used to live with when we all lived together. I am really hoping they remember each other, I am sure they will. But I am more hoping that they run towards each other in slow motion with their hair flapping majestically in the wind. Although Ajax just got shaved and Sable is more fluffy then anything so her hair doesn't exactly flap.

Anyways, I think I will film their reunion because its going to be adorable... If they remember each other. If not, then it will be a super awkward next week for her because she isn't really one for other dogs and takes a while to warm up. Although that's kind of the rights you get as an old lady.

Tonight I need to pack. I first need to pick up a whole bunch of stuff I forgot... I meant to buy new underpants because no matter how many loads of laundry I do most of mine have vanished. I need to find a whole bunch of socks.

This is our first road trip together just the two of us. I am hoping that it will go fine and hopefully we don't get lost. We tend to get lost driving to places we go on a regular basis so its not looking so good. I really hope it goes well. I have all the hotels booked up until the very last night where we don't quite know where we will be yet so we couldn't pre-book. I am so excited and I hope I see a whale.

The best thing about vacation: Not being at work.

I got to remind my boss this morning that I wasn't going to be here, and the first thing he said was oh well who will help me? Nice people. I don't care. Tomorrow I will sleep in until like.. 7 which is two hours of sleeping in so that's awesome. Maybe, if I get all ready and packed tonight I can sleep in even later.

Anyways, I need to try to make a few more posts for while I am away, I am not going to promise anything of quality because... you know I have such high standards as it is. But you know.. I will be on holidays. Hopefully I will have some awesome stories for when I get back though!
